Slacker iPhone Application Officially Available
Fans of Sirius XM have to be asking themselves… what gives? Slacker doesn’t have half the resources Sirius XM does, yet fans of Slacker have a sleek web application and a spanking new iPhone App while Sirius XM subscribers are forced to use a clunky interface that doesn’t even work in all browsers.
While Sirius XM is busy restructuring, cutting programming, and searching for financing the rest of the audio entertainment industry is innovating and passing them by. Make no mistake about it, every day that Sirius XM does not have an iPhone App available they are losing potential subscribers to their competitors.

This app is awesome. Everything I want, and all the punk I can get. To bad Sirius can’t get their act together.
I downloaded Slacker last night on to my Iphone. It took about 3 minutes to download and setup. When connected to WiFi it is a great service for free. However, when not connected to WiFi it is useless. I do not see it as a threat in the car at this time. And of course Slacker offers just pure music and lacks the content SiriusXM offers.
Charles, Innovative! That’s the key word. Sirius Xm were no doubt innovative in their past lives. I feel that they are so tied up w/finnancing that they forgot that innovation is even a word. I’m sure it’s tough to walk thru the current mine field that’s ahead of them. But being in the industry that they are in they have no choice but to be innovative. But if your’e stressed out that takes away from the creative juices that brings up new innovations. I think their is a lack of young bright ideas in their management model. If there are their offices are in the basement broom closet. What happen to the days they were coming out with new great ideas almost daily? I get they are in a bunker listening for overhead bombers. Get the hell out of the bunkers and lets see some creative thinking. The world is passing by SatRad. Time is of the most importance. Here is the report card I would give them since the merger. Marketing D Innovation F Image F Company Perception F. I’m not trying to be negative or a smart ass. I’m just giving my own real opinion. What gades would you give?
F’s all across the board. This stock sucks.
Not a threat at all to SIRI.. It’s only 1 medium (Iphone)…
SIRI has BMW, toyota, nissan, mercedes, audi, ford, gm, chrysler, honda, vw, lexus, acura, infiniti…
Slacker is a fly in the room..
Slacker also has Blackberry and a host of internet driven radios for the home. They also have a partnership with Sony Bravia TV’s and their own hand held the G2.
Slacker may be a fly in the room, but they have a lot of innovation. SIRIUS started as a fly in the room as well.
Not worried in the least. I have Pandora, uSirius StarPlayr, and now Slacker. This app looks like another Pandora clone. Frankly, I prefer the StarPlayr app for the iPhone.
I would like to see a feature like Pandora and Slacker introduced in Sirius, but neither of these “competitive” music services impress me at all. The commercial I had to listen to turned me off immediately.
Slacker and Pandora are Siriusly lacking
🙂
I have to agree. I am not only a VP, I am also a client.
Don’t be a slacker. Be a starplayer.
slacker’s UI hurts my eyes. It is too much like pandora. it’s definitely a knock off with the thumbs up and thumbs down, social music phenomenon, but it’s not phenomenal.
Sirius XM’s sound quality will be 128k after March 11. More features are planned after iTMS approves uSSP.
It’s going to be a dog fight to the finish.
Does slacker have live talk radio and Howard? Mmmm.. I don’t see Howard Stern talking about anything else but StarPlayr these days.
They don’t impress you but, you want to see Sirius do something similar?
The sound quality of Slacker music is hands down better. As far your commercial goes, there is about 1 per hour and its a 30 seconds or less spot, which is less interruption then most Sirius XM channels AND for $3 you can make the commercials go away all together.
You sound like an angry SIRI stockholder. It would be cool if you had to disclose the number of shares you own before you post a comment here.
I’ve used the Slacker webplayer for a while in addition to Pandora, both web and iPhone, and sometimes I think the Slacker song catalog is bigger or maybe just the way it chooses what to play next. Pandora, I always seem to get the same songs with a new one thrown in every now and then. Could just be me though.
